Counselling, Psychotherapy and Supervision Online in East London

What Is Person Centred Therapy?

Person Centred Therapy was founded over fifty years ago by American psychologist Carl Rogers and is sometimes known as Rogerian therapy.

It is an approach to therapy which trusts people to know what issues are most pressing for them to address, and helps them to find the answers which will work for them as individuals.

As a Person Centred Therapist I will actively offer you non judgemental support and work with you to help you find your own answers. I won't try direct you, but if you ask me any questions I will do my best to answer them.

In Person Centred Therapy you will be listened to as the unique individual that you are, and not as a 'type' of person.

Whether you have had counselling or psychotherapy before, or whether this will be your first time, in Person Centred Therapy we will move at your own pace - at a pace that you feel comfortable with. Person Centred Therapy is an approach to therapy in which the therapist will try to understand you, and will not try to fit you into a theory.

"It is the client who knows what hurts, what directions to go, what problems are crucial, what experiences have been deeply buried."

-From On Becoming a Person, Carl Rogers 1961

Working With Me

Coming for therapy is sometimes hard - it is sometimes difficult to know what to say. At other times there is so much to say that you may not know where to begin. Even though at our first meeting I will be a stranger to you I will try to understand what you want to say and how you feel. In Person centred therapy you will not be judged. You will be accepted, and in our work together I hope you will gain greater clarity and movement toward a more fulfilling life. I am open and welcoming to people of all backgrounds and beliefs, and will take an interest in you and your thoughts and feelings. I am broad minded and hope that I will never discriminate.

Person centred therapy is a journey we can take together.
